Respond or react

I am sure we have all had those moments when a conversation suddenly shifts and becomes hard. It maybe that someone’s words sting or a tone has changed, and you feel it in your body. Your chest tightens, your heart races, and it may feel like you can’t quite find your voice. Sometimes we lash out, other times we retreat into silence. After the encounter is over, and we have given it some thought, we wish we had been able to stay steady and speak from a place of kindness and clarity instead of fear. It’s such a tender human experience, and it happens to us all.

The truth is there’s always a small space,  a pause, between what happens and how we choose to respond. Remember that in that pause lives our freedom. If we can take even one gentle breath before we speak, we give ourselves the chance to soften, to notice what’s really happening inside, and to choose words that build bridges instead of walls. That little moment of presence can open the door to greater honesty, understanding, and connection.

And here is something beautiful, with practice, we can get better at this. Little by little, we can learn to bring more calm, courage, and compassion into all our conversations. Even the most difficult moments can become opportunities to grow closer, heal, and share more of who we truly are. Every word becomes a chance to bring more love into the world, and that’s a gift we can give, again and again.

Stress – what is it?

Have you set yourself goals that you want to achieve?  If so, are they actually achievable?  And more importantly are they really necessary? There is stress around goals.  You make them mean something about your worth and value and this creates pressure as you strive to achieve them.  And if you do achieve them, will there still be something missing? So, let’s imagine you want to test out how stressed you are.

If you feel you have to make it happen you are putting a huge responsibility on your shoulders.  You think you are on your own.  You work hard at gaining more knowledge, you work harder and keep a very tight control.  You make it all about your personal commitment and discipline.  You want to prove yourself to yourself and to everyone else or you think you will lose everything.  We force ourselves out of our comfort zones feeling stress and fear all the way along.

Photo by Nicola Barts on Pexels.com

Or you could leave it all up to the Universe.  This means we sit and wait for the conditions of our environment or in our mind to be perfect.  This is very unlikely to happen.  So we get stressed whilst we wait. Or you can use your free will and make decisions from your innate wisdom and stay on course when your thoughts are stressful.  It is your thoughts that cause the stress, since stress itself does not exist until we create it.

So relax into what it is you want to achieve, live in the moment, don’t think about the future as it hasn’t happened yet, do what you feel is right and your stress levels will reduce and you may even find that you have no need to set goals at all.

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you to learn to change your thoughts, help you learn that you are special and change the way you are thinking about what you think about yourself.

Change yesterday’s thoughts

You will never change your future if you keep thinking yesterday’s thoughts.  Our thoughts are the triggers for our actions and emotions.  They dictate what we pay attention to and influence which opportunities we grab, as well as those we allow to pass us by or even sabotage. If we keep thinking the same things, we’ll keep getting the same results.

Magically, turning things around is simple. How about asking yourself ‘is this thought taking me closer towards or further away from where I want to be?’ If it is closer towards, then how about nurturing that thoughts, or an even better one? If it’s moving you away from your dream, gently let that thought pass and consciously choose another that helps you move back towards your destination.

It takes practice, but all of us can do it – if we want to. Are there any yesterday’s thoughts that you could let go of today?

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you to learn to change your thoughts, help you learn that you are special and change the way you are thinking about what you think about yourself.

New start

There are times in our lives that lend themselves to starting something new. They could be the beginning of the year, leaving school, leaving a job, or moving house. These all are times that turn our minds to fresh starts. Their advantage is that they bring with them the energy of that event, creating a tide of change around them that we can ride on . But we can choose to start anew at any time. At any moment, we can decide that a bad day or a relationship that got  off on the wrong foot needs a relaunch. It is a mental shift that allows us to clean the slate and approach anything with fresh eyes. We can make that choice at any time.

Starting new is most powerful when we focus our attention on what we are choosing to create. Giving all of our attention to the unwanted aspects of our lives allows what we resist to persist. We need to remember to leave enough room in the process of new beginnings to be kind to ourselves. It takes time to become accustomed to anything new, no matter how much we like it. There is no need to get down on ourselves if we don’t reach our new goals instantly. Instead, we should acknowledge the forward motion, knowing that with each choice we learn, grow, and move in a positive direction.

Making the choice to start anew has its own energy. The forward momentum creates a sort of vacuum behind it, pulling all you need toward you to help you continue moving in your chosen direction. Once the journey has begun, it may take unexpected turns, but it never really ends. Like cycles in nature, there are periods of obvious growth and periods of dormancy that signal a time of waiting for the right moment to burst forth. Each time we choose to start anew we dedicate ourselves to becoming the best we are able to be.

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you to learn to rebuild your self confidence, help you learn that you are special and change the way you are thinking about what you think about yourself.

How to survive Valentine’s Day as a single person

Take advantage of you and really look after yourself on this day. Turn the focus of your attention to you. Buy yourself something special, something you will really love and appreciate. It maybe something that you wouldn’t usually think of buying for yourself, but on this occasion it feels right to do it. Here are some more suggestions for you to feel special on this loving day:

  • treat yourself to a day being pampered at the spa. Or
  • treat yourself to a special meal and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. It can be a take away delivered to your door.  Use your favourite crockery, buy a bottle of wine and enjoy your chosen feast. Or
  • watch your favourite film or read a good book. Or
  • How about you and some of your best friends getting together to watch a few of the worst romantic comedy films you can find.  Have a fun evening with people you love to be with and who love to be with you.
  • Make a Valentine’s Day resolution to love yourself.  Resolve to take some evening classes or to go on that trip you have been promising yourself.  Resolve to try new restaurants or to try new recipes.  Make a resolution that you will make a start towards the dreams you know you want to achieve.
  • If you have children why not make the day special for them as well as you.  Buy some little gifts – chocolates, stuffed toys, model cars etc. – and make a present hunt game with clues, and they can fun trying to find the gifts and you will have fun watching them.

Whatever it is you choose to do, whether it is on your own, with friends or with your children, make sure it is fun for you.

Do not:

  • Find a stranger to spend the night with.  You will regret it in the morning and make it worse for yourself when the next Valentine’s Day comes around.
  • Watch tv programmes filled with loves stories.
  • Get all dressed up at work as your colleagues will jump to conclusions and make your life a misery all day.
  • Sit at home being miserable and feeling sorry for yourself because you don’t have someone to share this sill day with.
  • Beat yourself up for feeling miserable and lonely.

A great thing to do would be to wait until February 15th and then treat yourself to a heart-shaped box of chocolates at half price, or buy some flowers for yourself for half price.

Remember, it is just one day.  It will all be over in the morning.

Plan your life around yourself and learn to really love yourself again.  This will not only be fun and interesting, but loving yourself is the basis of beginning your new life as the new, confident you.

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you to learn to rebuild your self confidence, help you learn that you are special and change the way you are thinking about what you think about yourself.

Blaming Others

When we understand that the world outside of us is a reflection of the world inside of us, we could feel confused about who is to blame for the problems in our lives. If we had a difficult childhood, we may wonder how we can take responsibility for that, and in our current relationships, the same question arises. We all know that blaming others is the opposite of taking responsibility, but we may not understand how to take responsibility for things that we don’t feel responsible for. We may blame our parents for our low self-esteem, and we may blame our current partner for exacerbating it with their unconscious behaviour. Objectively, this seems to make sense. After all, it is not our fault if our parents were irresponsible or unkind, and we are not to blame for our partner’s bad behaviour.

Perhaps the problem lies with the action of blaming. Whether we blame others or blame ourselves, there is something aggressive and unkind about it. It sets up a situation in which it becomes difficult to move forward with the feelings of shame and guilt that arise. It also puts the resolution of our pain in the hands of someone other than us. Ultimately, we cannot insist that someone else take responsibility for their actions; only they can make that choice when they are ready. In the meantime, if we want to move forward with our lives instead of waiting around for something that may or may not happen, we begin to see the wisdom of taking the situation into our own hands.

We do this by forgiving our parents, even if they have not asked for our forgiveness, so that we can be free. We end the abusive relationship with our partner, who may never admit to any wrongdoing, because we are willing to take responsibility for how we are treated. In short, we love ourselves as we want to be loved and create the life we know we deserve. We leave the resolution of the wrongs committed against us in the hands of the universe, releasing ourselves to live a life free of blame.

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you to learn to rebuild your self confidence, understand how forgiveness works and change the way you are thinking about what you think about yourself.

Stop overthinking

Overthinking creates problems that don’t exist. It will steal your happiness, making everyhing seem worse that it actually is. Take a deep breath in. Exhale and have faith. What is meant to be will be.

When you stop overthinking, that’s when things gent to fall into place. Even if it’s not clear right now, everything will be okay.

Embrace the uncertainty, as it makes life special. Remember, life is not a problem to be solved, it is a rality to be experienced. Allow yourself to be present, to feel and to grow.

By letting go of overthinking you make space for joy, peace and fulfilment to enter your life.

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you to stop overthinking and change the way you are thinking about what you think about yourself.

Give yourself permission to simply ‘be’.

The elation that we feel when we have learned an important lesson, achieved a goal, or had a big breakthrough can sometimes be met with a period of downtime afterward. During this period of transition, we may feel unsure and not know where to turn next. I know that during this period of downtime, we can begin to wonder what our life is about, what our purpose is. These feelings are very common and we all feel them from time to time. Often, we feel best when we are working on a project or vigorously pursuing a goal. But there is nothing inherently wrong with spending a day, a week or even a month, simply existing and not having a plan. Just being. I know that I have found sometimes the quiet lull between ideas, projects, and goals can make life appear empty. I know there are some people who, after accomplishing one objective, want to move immediately on to the next.

However, we are all different.  When you find that your next step is unclear, it is quite natural to feel frustrated, or disconnected or even a mild depression. To help calm what can be distressing thoughts, learn to accept that you will continue to grow as an individual whether you are striving for a specific objective or not. Just be and use all the time you need to think about what you have recently gone through and leisurely contemplate what you wish to do next.

You may also find that in simply being and going through the motions of everyday life, you reconnect with your priorities in a very organic, unforced way. I have found that this transition time is different all the time. It can be a period of reflection or a period of adjustment where new values based on recent changes can be integrated. Just because you have temporarily lost sight of a final destination, doesn’t mean you should assume that you have lost your drive. Where you are going next will become apparent at the right time for you.

If this has resonated with you get in touch today. Through personalised guidance, I will help you develop a positive mindset and create lasting changes in your life. What are you not happy with in your life? What are you happy with in your life? Find out how to change some of your habits for a better life.
