Saying Yes, Saying No

If you were to hover above your daily life and view all the things that make it up, at what you do with each minute of your 24 hours, each and every day, at all the people and things that are part of it.  How much of it would you feel you had actually chosen ?

The truth is you chose all of it, on some level or another.  And even if there are some things you don’t feel like you chose, you certainly chose to allow them to continue. So, if you have all this choice, how come you reach a point from time to time where life seems incredibly cluttered and pressured?  Maybe you have lost sight of what you’re saying yes to and no to…and why you are saying yes or no.

If you’ve ever listened to yourself say yes when you really wanted to say no, you’ll know how bad that feels.  For some people, each day is like that.  So what does that leave them with?  Lots of what they don’t want filling their time and little or no time for what they do want to fill their time! My guess is that we all have been in this situation to a greater or lesser extent.  Perhaps we have over-committed ourselves to work or other areas, tried to fit too much into our time, attempted to do lots of things at once, finding ourselves doing things that don’t energise us and perhaps, in some cases, draining us.  So what do we do about it?  Have a spring-clean!

The secret to spring-cleaning your life is in the use of those simple words ‘yes’ and ‘no’.  Are there situations, people or commitments in your life that you regularly say yes to, that you’d love to be able to say no to?  How much time could you free up by saying no to things that don’t give you anything and that you don’t enjoy?  What could you do with that time instead? By consciously looking at what we don’t want to be doing with our time, we can clear out the clutter and make space for a better quality of life.  We open up our time for the things we enjoy, clearing the way for new opportunities to have fun and to grow. How refreshing will that be!

What will YOU say yes and no to?  If this has struck a chord with you, take action now and answer these questions one at a time, making notes as a reminder:

  • What do you currently spend your time on that you’d like to be able to say no to?
  • By saying no to those things, what will that free up your time for?
  • If you were to put yourself first, what commitments, situations and people would you say no to?
  • What will you say yes to instead?

If this has resonated with you in any way, please get in touch.

I offer coaching and mentoring to you – for you to make the changes you want to in your life. Build your confidence in your abilities.  Read my clients’ testimonials here. To help you to have more fun, more freedom and less stress. That is it. There is no catch. I believe in you.

Fear can block our creativity

That sounds daft I know but take a moment to imagine yourself telling a story.  Imagine yourself telling the story to someone you love and who loves you.  You probably feel warmth and energy as you fill in the details of your tale to your friend’s delight, the feedback, even without words,  is positive.  Now, imagine telling that same story to someone who, for whatever reason, makes you uncomfortable.  The wonderful descriptions, the fine points and colourful images that unfolded in your mind for your friend probably won’t present themselves.  Instead of warmth, energy, and creativity, you will most likely feel opposite sensations and a desire to close down.  When we feel unsafe, whether we fear being judged, disliked, or misunderstood, our creative flow stops. Alternately, when we feel safe, our creativity unfolds like a beautiful flower, without conscious effort.

Being aware of this is a positive as we can maximize our creative potential by creating the conditions that inspire our creativity. In order to really be in the flow, we need to feel safe and unrestricted. Being in the flow is something that happens, not created.  It happens because we are so enthralled and wrapped up in what we are doing, that time flies by and before we know it a whole day has gone by.  Achieving being in the flow is not as simple as avoiding people who make us feel uncomfortable. Sometimes we can be alone in a room and still feel totally blocked. When this happens, we know we have come up against elements in our own psyches that are making us feel uneasy and fearful. Perhaps we are afraid that in expressing ourselves we will discover something we don’t want to know, or unleash emotions or ideas that we don’t want to be responsible for. Or maybe we’re afraid we’ll fail to produce something worthy.

When you’re up against fear, internal or external, ritual can be a creative and powerful antidote. Ensure you have everything you need to be creative. Have your right pens, paper, equipment ready.  Make sure you have a drink nearby, and something to snack on.  Play your favourite music if it helps.  Think about what creates the perfect space for you to be in the flow, and then let it happen naturally.  You cannot force it.  Flow will happen when your setting is right, when you are not fearful or being judged and you feel safe and warm.  Take a moment to bathe in the warmth of this feeling and then fearlessly surrender yourself to the power that flows through you.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Things We Don’t Want to Do

Most of us can remember tackling some task that we absolutely dreaded doing only to come out the other side feeling invigorated, filled with a new sense of confidence and strength. Often when we do these dreaded tasks, we come out on the other side changed and wondering what we were so worried about or why it took us so long to get around to it. We might even start to look for other tasks we’ve been avoiding so that we can feel repeat those feelings.

Putting off that dreaded task creates obstacles for us, either because the task itself scares us, or we think it will bore us or we believe it will force a change we are not ready for.  On the other hand, facing that task at no matter how onerous, creates flow in our lives and allows us to grow. The relief is palpable when we stand on the other side knowing that we did something even though it was hard or we didn’t want to do it. On the other hand, when we cling to our comfort zone, never addressing the things we don’t want to face, we cut ourselves off from flow and growth.

I am sure we all have at least one thing in our life that never seems to get done. Bringing that task to the top of the list and promising ourselves that we will do it as soon as possible is an act that could liberate a tremendous amount of energy in our lives. Whatever it is, we can allow ourselves to be fuelled by the promise of the feelings of exhilaration and confidence that will be the natural result of doing it.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please let me know. I would love to hear from you. I offer coaching and mentoring to you – for you to make the changes you want to in your life. We don’t always see the bigger picture

Often we find ourselves wondering what our lives are going to look like or what gifts or challenges are going to be presented to us in the coming months or years. We may want to know if the relationship we’re in now will last or if our goals will be realised. Perhaps we feel like we need help making a decision and we want to know which choice will work out best. Some may consult psychics, tarot cards, their dreams, and other sources in the hopes of finding out what the future holds. Usually, at most, we may catch glimpses. And even though we think we would like to know the whole story in all its details, the truth is that we would probably be overwhelmed and exhausted if we knew everything that is going to happen to us.

Just think of your life as you’ve lived it up until this point. If you are like most of us, you have probably done more and faced more than you could have ever imagined. If someone had told you as a child of all the jobs and relationships you would experience, along with each one’s inherent ups and downs, you would have become overwhelmed. With your head full of information about the future, you may well have had a very hard time experiencing your life in the present moment, which is where everything actually happens.

Probably not knowing what the future has in store brings out in us the qualities we need to grow. For example, it would have been difficult to commit yourself to certain people or projects if you knew they wouldn’t ultimately work out. Yet, it was through your commitment to see them through that you experienced the lessons you needed to grow. Looking back on your life, you would likely be hard pressed to say that anything in your past should not have happened. In fact, your most challenging experiences with their inevitable lessons may have ultimately brought you the greatest rewards. Not knowing the future keeps us just where we need to be–fully committed and in the present moment.

I would love to hear from you about your experiences.

Remember the Sun

There are times when darkness or gloom causes us to momentarily lose sight of the light. And it is at these times when we think of the sun that it can help us.  Its warm, glowing rays brighten  our thoughts, and it’s good to remember that despite appearances the sun is shining right now. We may not be able to see it at this very moment if clouds are blocking our view, but remember they are only filtering the sun’s light temporarily. If darkness has fallen, we know that the sun is still shining at this very moment somewhere in the world not too far away, and it’s only a matter of time before it will shine on us again.

When we remember that the sun is still shining, we know that things are still in motion in the universe. Even if life feels like it is at a standstill, sometimes all we need to do is believe and wait for the time when everything is in its perfect place. Or we can we can choose to follow the cues of the sun and continue doing our work and shining our light, even when we can’t yet see results.  In doing this we exercise our patience, making sure we are prepared when opportunity knocks and all other elements are in their right and perfect places.

The sun also reminds us that our own shining truth is never extinguished. Our light shines within us at all times, no matter what else occurs around us. The sun gives us daily proof of its existence, but sometimes our belief in our own light requires a bit  more time.  If we think back, however, we can find moments when it showed itself and trust that we will see it again. Like the sun, our light is the energy that connects us to the movements of the universe and the cycles of life and is present at all times, whether we feel its glow or not.

Coaching

I know that you want a better understanding of your current situation, to work out what really matters to you in life, to make the choices that are right for you and to discover who you really are?

To do those things you will have to be ready to make some changes, not necessarily huge changes, maybe changing the filling in your sandwich. When you work with me you will learn how to live life like you and not how you think other people want you to be and this will bring you more freedom, more fun and less stress.

Maggie 3-1

Coaching sessions can be done face to face, via phone or Skype but not in these uncertain times. Concentrating on stay well in most important.

I have been to many seminars, courses, retreats, conferences, workshops where it is plainly obvious the people running them are using them to upsell their very much more expensive products. These can often be in the thousands of pounds. Whilst these people give you a glimpse of what they offer  at a free seminar, short course, workshop etc., you never actually get to benefit from it unless you pay out that money. They make no secret of it and they are very successful – for a while.

There is also a lot of bull**** being sold out there that is solely to make money, and is not focused on you.

I offer coaching and mentoring – for you to make changes in your life. To help you to have more fun, more freedom and less stress. That is it. There is no catch. I believe in you.

My qualifications:

My coaching will enable you to see the true power of thought and its relationship to your way of living life so your transformations can begin, and you will better understand yourself and the world in which you live. I will help you get the results you want.

Purpose

Most living things are born knowing their purpose in life. For instance, an animal will spend its day foraging for food, taking care of itself and its young, and creating a home. No one tells an animal to do this, yet it instinctively knows how. Humans, however, usually are not born consciously knowing what their purpose is.

No one tells an animal to do this, yet it instinctively knows how. Humans, however, usually are not born consciously knowing what their purpose is.

Purpose gives our life meaning. When you discover your purpose, you will live your life with intention and make the choices that serve your objective for why you are here on the planet. Finding your purpose is not always easy. Some people may never find their purpose. You must embrace life wholeheartedly, explore many different pathways, and allow yourself to grow. Your purpose is as unique as you are and will evolve as you move through life. You don’t need anyone’s permission to fulfil your purpose, and no one can tell you what that purpose is. Finding and fulfilling your purpose can be a lifelong endeavour. To figure out what your purpose is, ask yourself what drives you,  not what forces you out of bed in the morning, but what makes you happy to be alive. Make a list of activities that you wish you were involved in or think about a career path that you would love to embark upon. These are the endeavours that can help you fulfil your purpose and bring you the most satisfaction.

Imagine yourself working on projects that don’t interest you or fulfil your purpose, yet they help satisfy your basic survival needs. Imagine how living this way each day would make you feel. Next, imagine yourself devoting your time to projects that spark your imagination, inspire, excite, and satisfy you. More often than not, these activities are some of the ways that you can fulfil your life purpose. Time spent on these endeavours will never feel like a waste. Live your life with purpose, and you will feel significant and capable because every action you take and each choice you make will have meaning to it.

I would love to hear from you about your experiences.

Having It Easy

In our lives we are often facing challenges. We dream the grandest of dreams as young people only to discover that we must have enormous inner strength and determination in order to meet our goals. Our hard work does not always yield the results we expect though.  And it is when we find ourselves frustrated by the trials we face or we seem to be  unable to meet our own expectations that we are most likely to take notice of those individuals who appear to accomplish great feats effortlessly. Some people’s lives seem to magically fall into place. We can see the blessings they have received, the ease with which they have attained their desires, their unwavering confidence, and their wealth. But, we can never see the story of their lives as a whole, therefore it is important that we don’t pass judgement or becoming envious.

In general we glimpse only the outer hull of others’ life experiences, so it’s tempting to believe that the abundance they enjoy is the result of luck rather than diligent effort.  This may be the case in a small number of people so our assumptions may mirror reality. But very few people “have it easy.” We all must overcome difficulties and each of us has been granted a distinctive set of talents with which to do so. Someone who is highly gifted may nonetheless have to practice industriously and correct themselves repeatedly so they can cultivate their talents. Their myriad of accomplishments are more likely than not the result of ongoing hard work and sacrifice. You, no doubt, have natural abilities that you have nurtured and your gifts may be the very reason you strive as tirelessly as you do. Yet others see only the outcome of your efforts and not the efforts themselves

The universe is constantly testing our intellects, our hearts, and our souls. Life will create new challenges for you to face each time you prove yourself capable of overcoming the challenges of the past. What you think is difficult will always differ from that which others think is difficult. The tests you will be given will be as unique as you are. If you focus on doing the best you can and making use of the blessings you have been granted, the outcome of your efforts will be the reflection of your dedication.

I would love to hear from you about your experiences.

Give yourself permission to simply be

The elation that we feel when we have learned an important lesson, achieved a goal, or had a big breakthrough can sometimes be met with a period of downtime afterwards.  During this time of transition, we may feel unsure and not know where to turn next.

I know that during this period of downtime, we can begin to wonder what our life is about, what our purpose is. These feelings are very common and we all feel them from time to time.

womanscreaming

Often, we feel best when we are working on a project or vigorously pursuing a goal. But there is nothing inherently wrong with spending a day, a week or even a month, simply existing and not having a plan. Just being.

I know that I have found sometimes the quiet lull between ideas, projects, and goals can make life appear empty. I know there are some people who, after accomplishing one objective, want to move immediately on to the next.

However, we are all different.  When you find that your next step is unclear, it is quite natural to feel frustrated, or disconnected or even a mild depression.

To help calm what can be distressing thoughts, learn to accept that you will continue to grow as an individual whether you are striving for a specific objective or not. Just be and use all the time you need to think about what you have recently gone through and leisurely contemplate what you wish to do next.

You may also find that in simply being and going through the motions of everyday life, you reconnect with your priorities in a very organic, unforced way.

I have found that this transition time is different all the time. It can be a period of reflection or a period of adjustment where new values based on recent changes can be integrated.

Just because you have temporarily lost sight of a final destination, doesn’t mean you should assume that you have lost your drive. Where you are going next will become apparent at the right time for you.

I would love to hear from you about your experiences of simply being.

I offer coaching and mentoring to you – for you to make the changes you want to in your life. Build your confidence in your abilities.  Read my clients’ testimonials here. To help you to have more fun, more freedom and less stress. That is it. There is no catch. I believe in you.

Being Thankful

Often when we are being thankful, we tend to count our blessings, acknowledging the wonderful people, things and places that make up our reality. It is great to be grateful for the good fortune we have accumulated, but true thankfulness stems from a powerful understanding of the gift of simply being alive, and when we feel it, we feel it regardless of our circumstances. In this deep state of gratitude, we recognise the purity of the experience of being, in and of itself, and our thankfulness is part and parcel of our awareness that we are one with this great mystery that is life.

It can be difficult to access this level of consciousness as we all are very caught up in the ups and downs of our individual experiences in the world. The thing to remember about the world, though, is that it ebbs and flows, expands and contracts, gives and takes, and is by its very nature somewhat unreliable. If we only feel gratitude when it serves our desires, this is not true thankfulness. No one is exempt from the twists and turns of fate, which may, at any time, take the possessions, situations, and people we love away from us. Ironically, it is sometimes this kind of loss that awakens us to a thankfulness that goes deeper than just being grateful when things go our way. Illness and near-miss accidents can also serve as wake-up calls to the deeper realisation that we are truly lucky to be alive.

We don’t have to wait to be shaken to experience this state of being truly thankful for our lives. Tuning in to our breathing and making an effort to be fully present for a set period of time each day can do wonders for our ability to connect with true gratitude. We can also awaken ourselves with the intention to be more aware of the unconditional generosity of the life force that flows through us regardless of our circumstances.
