Treat yourself to a self-healing day

We all carry within us the seed of healing. Our choices can affect us more than we realise, and it is because of this that we tend to place responsibility for our wellness in the hands of others. As beneficial as regular visits to a practitioner can be, a chiropractor, massage therapist,  we have the power to heal ourselves at will. When we dedicate a day to the pursuit of wellness, we can relax and renew ourselves in a nourishing and comfortable environment. A sincere desire to open ourselves to the highest realities of our physical and spiritual selves is the key to self-healing so that healing energy can flow into us unimpeded.

Your self-healing day should address your vital needs as a whole person while directing healing energy where it is needed most. Solitude is an important part of the process as is the ability to take find a space that is both beautiful and peaceful. Start your healing day by setting the intention that you are dedicating this time to healing yourself. Choose flowers, candlelight, incense, music or in nature to  guide your focus toward a more tranquil state. For a more intense session, try listening to music through headphones since tuning out can help you tune in. It is up to you to decide what you need to do to cultivate wellness in your life. For some, it may be time spent in reflection. Others will turn to calming activities that help them remember their purpose, such as journal writing, being in nature, or studying. Your healing may even take a more direct form as you use colour, sound, or crystals to balance and ground yourself.

Ultimately, your nourishing intentions transform what might otherwise be a simple day of rest into a day of healing. Grant yourself permission to relax and savour the stillness. If you attune yourself to the calm around you, worldly distractions will be minimised and the unadulterated flow of your consciousness will reestablish itself in the forefront of your mind. The needs of the body, the heart, and the soul will then be revealed to you, empowering you to tap into the essential healing energy of the universe. The mechanism you use to channel this energy will be dependent on your shifting requirements, so each day of healing you enjoy will be unique. All will replenish you, however, allowing you to recreate yourself in a perfect image of health.

Simplifying your schedule

Few of us can be truly healthy or happy without regular periods of downtime. For many, life is a hodgepodge of never-ending commitments. While there is nothing inherently wrong with busyness, those of us who over-commit or over-extend ourselves potentially face exhaustion and burnout. When you feel overwhelmed by your commitments, examining your motivation for taking on so many obligations can help you understand why you feel compelled to do so much. You may discover that you are being driven by fear that no one else will do the job or guilt that you aren’t doing enough. To regain your equilibrium and clear the clutter from your calendar, simplify your life by establishing limits regarding what you will and will not do based on your personal priorities.

Photo by Jess Bailey Designs on Pexels.com

Determining where your priorities lie can be as easy as making two lists: one that outlines all those obligations that are vital to your wellbeing, such as work, meditation, and exercise, and another that describes everything you do that is not directly related to your wellbeing. Although there will likely be items in the latter list that excite your passion or bring you joy, you may discover that you devote a large portion of your time to unnecessary activities. To simplify your schedule, consider which of these unnecessary activities add little value to your life and remove them from your agenda. Remember that you may need to ask for help, say no firmly, or delegate responsibility in order to distance yourself from such encumbrances. However, as you divest yourself of non-vital obligations that cause you stress, serve no purpose, or rob you of opportunities to refresh yourself, you will feel more energetic and enthusiastic about life in general.

If simplifying your schedule seems prohibitively difficult and you still feel pressed to take on more, try imagining how each new commitment will impact your life before saying yes. When you consider the hassle associated with superfluous obligations, you may be surprised to see that your schedule is impeding your attempts to grow as an individual. Your willingness to pare down your agenda, no matter how gradual your progress, will empower you to retake active control of the life that defines you.

If this has resonated with you in any way, and you would like help to make some life enhancing decisions, get in touch hello@maggiecurrie.co.uk. Knowing when to let someone go

It’s common to maintain a relationship because we feel the other person needs us or we believe that they will eventually change. We may also be afraid of hurting the other person or feel insecure in our ability to find new relationships. Just as a good relationship can have a positive impact on your life, stressful, draining, or imbalanced relationships can have negative effects on your health and well-being. But knowing when to end a relationship and acknowledging that the pain will pass can often prevent greater pain and feelings of loss in the long run.

If you’re in a relationship that isn’t satisfying or one that has become unhealthy for you, rather than spending energy attempting to fix a problem or complaining, ask yourself what you really want from the relationship. Consider whether the other person truly considers your feelings or if they are willing to change their behaviour. Ask yourself if you’ve often thought about ending the relationship or if you feel your bonds have atrophied. While every relationship has ups and downs, when there are more downs than ups or the two of you are bringing out the worst in each other, it may be time to sever the connection. Be honest with yourself and your answers, even if the truth is painful.

Relationships thrive on honesty, communication, mutual caring, and time spent together. When one or more of these elements are missing, it may be that the relationship, no matter how passionate, simply isn’t worth it. It’s far better to end a relationship that doesn’t feel right than to hold on to it and languish in feelings of anger or resentment. Moving on without struggle, on the other hand, can be the door that leads you to a more nurturing relationship in the future.

If this has resonated with you in any way, and you would like to start living your life in the driving seat rather than the passenger seat, please get in touch. hello@maggiecurrie.co.uk. Work with me, improve your confidence and learn how to maintain or exit a relationship. Relearn how to live your life in the front row, take control of your own life.

The process of grieving

The grief we are feeling is not a permanent state of being. Rather, grief is part of the process of letting go that in many ways can be a gift, allowing us to go deeper within ourselves to rediscover the light amidst the seeming darkness.   When we experience any kind of devastating loss, whether it is the loss of a loved one, a family pet, a dream, or a relationship, feelings may arise within us that are overwhelming or difficult to cope with. This sense of grief can also come up when we are separated from anyone or anything we have welcomed into our lives. And while it may feel like we are caught up in a never-ending spiral of sadness and emptiness, it is important to remember that it is indeed a process.

The emotions that accompany any kind of loss can be intense and varied. A sense of shock or denial is often the first reaction, to be replaced by anger. Sometimes this anger can be directed at your loved one for “abandoning” you; at other times you may feel outrage toward the universe for what you are enduring. And while there are stages of grief that people go through — moving from denial to anger to bargaining to depression to acceptance — the cycles of grief often move in spirals, sometimes circling forward and then back again. You may even experience moments of strength, faith, and laughter in between. While these emotions seem to come and go sporadically, it is important to feel them, accept them, and allow them to flow. With time, patience, and compassion, you will eventually find your centre again.

As we move through our grief, we may find ourselves reluctant to release our pain, fearing we are letting go of who or what we have lost. We may even regard our movement toward healing as an act of disloyalty or giving up. Know that while the hurt may fade, the essence of what you had and who you loved will have already transformed you and forever stay with you. If anything, once you are ready for the pain of your loss to subside, their memories can then live more fully within you. Remember, that healing is a part of the spiralling cycles of grief, and that in letting yourself feel restored again, you are surrendering to a natural movement that is part of the dance of life.

Life Packaging

We can almost imagine we have nothing in common with someone whose life seems to be completely different from ours. But when we observe a little deeper we begin to notice that we all have the same things going on in our lives.  It is as if our different lives are in essence the same gift, wrapped in an infinite variety of containers, wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows. We all experience loss, grief, happiness, excitement, anger, and fear. Everyone can have money issues of one kind or another, and everyone struggles with difficult choices.

Because we each learn in different ways our lives show up differently for each one of us. One person may need to learn the value of money by having too little of it, while another may need to learn by having more than enough. We each learn about work and love, with experiences that are tailored to our particular perspective. Even as it appears that some people have it easy while others are in a continual state of struggle, the truth is that we are all learning, and it is very difficult to tell, when looking only at the exterior of a person, what’s going on inside.

This is just one of the many things that can be so valuable about cultivating relationships with people from all walks of life. As we get to know those who seem so different from us, we get to really see how much of life’s challenges and joys are universal. We begin to look beyond the packaging of skin colour, clothing preferences, and socioeconomic differences, hairstyles, and the cars we drive to the heart of the human experience. It is important to honour and value the differences in our packaging, but it is just as important to honour the gift of life inside each one of us, and the fact that, no matter how different the packaging, the gift inside is the same.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please get in touch. hello@maggiecurrie.co.uk. Work with me, improve your confidence and see how much more you can achieve.

It is never too late to make changes in your life.  Change can be subtle or, if you feel it is time, you can completely overhaul your life. Maybe you feel stuck or trapped in a life which isn’t bringing you the happiness you desire. You can change your story at any time.

Letting go of the little stuff

Each and every day we experience numerous disappointments. Our plans are blocked by circumstance, our expectations go unmet,, our wishes go unfulfilled, and we discover that our lives are subject to a myriad of forces beyond our control. In some cases, our response is powerful because we must invest ourselves and our resources to overcome genuine hardship. In others, our reactions are far more passionate than our circumstances likely warrant. The tension that permeates our bodies and minds when we are late for an event, interrupted at work, or sitting in traffic is not inappropriate, but it can interfere with our well-being in profound ways. When we stop worrying about relatively unimportant matters, we can devote so much more of ourselves to what is truly important and be at peace.

The small frustrations and irritations wield such power over us because they rob us of the illusion of control. But every problem is a potential teacher. A confusing situation is an opportunity to practice mindfulness, and difficult people provide us with opportunities to display compassion. There is a natural human tendency to invest copious amounts of emotional energy in minor dilemmas and frustrations in order to avoid confronting those more complex issues that are largely outside the realm of our control. The intensity of our response provides us with a temporary sense of personal power that helps us cope with challenges that might otherwise overwhelm us. But it is only when we let the little stuff go that we discover that the big stuff is really not so devastating after all.

In the stress of a singularly tense incident, differentiating between an inconsequential annoyance and a legitimate challenge can seem a monumental task. Ask yourself whether the emotions you are feeling will be as vivid in a year, a day, or even an hour. As focused as you are on this moment in time, your reward for letting go of your emotional investment and stopping lamenting the loss, may be the very happiness and harmony of just being. Needless aggravation is seldom worth the cost it exacts. You cannot distance yourself from life’s inconsistencies, irritations, and upheavals, but you can relinquish your desire for perfect order and gain peace of mind in the process.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please get in touch. hello@maggiecurrie.co.uk. Work with me, improve your confidence and see how much more you can achieve.

Are you holding on to things you ‘Should’ do?

A lot of people carry around with them a large amount of “baggage” or “clutter” in their minds. They are still holding onto things that they say they ‘should’ do, but they really don’t need to. Those ‘coulds’ and ‘shoulds’ in your life that hold you back – you want to let go, but you don’t.

An example is worrying about whether you ‘should’ have bought that handbag you liked even though you couldn’t afford it. Worrying about it and continuing to carry around that clutter doesn’t do anyone any good. Are you carrying around with you a lot of emotional attention that you really could be doing without instead of focusing on something more productive? Are you like this? If you are, I bet it has a negative influence on your confidence and self esteem.

Take a look at your life and get rid of this baggage by asking yourself some questions and by completing the following exercise. In effect, what you are doing is making certain tasks “complete”, drawing a line under them and moving on. The following questions can be taken at one sitting or over a number of hours/days. By writing the answers down they become more formal. Get to it and watch your confidence soar!

• Make a list of 10 things that you are putting up with at home

• Make a list of 10 things that you are putting up with at work

• Make a list of 10 things that you are putting up with in any other areas of your life

Are you surprised at what you are putting up with in your life?

Make an action plan to get rid of these things that you have been putting up with. Or communicate to someone who can stop what you are putting up with. Take action!

• Make a list of things that are unresolved/unfinished in your life.

Make an action plan of how to reduce this number! Take action!

• Do you need to clear the air with anyone? If so, just do it! Life is too short!

• Did you ever say that you were going to call someone or keep in touch with someone yet have done nothing about it? If yes, call them or send an email to them today. Take action!

Let go of as many coulds, woulds, shoulds, maybes, oughts as you can. Take action!

By completing these exercises you will be able to focus more on the here, the now and the future. You will now be able to let go of some of the things that have been taking up your valuable attention units – those things that knock your self esteem.

If, however, you prefer to remain stuck and miserable take no action.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please get in touch. hello@maggiecurrie.co.uk. Work with me, improve your confidence and see how much more you can achieve.

Why wait for someday?

As we know the time we are blessed with is limited and tends to fly by all too quickly. How we utilise that time is consequently one of the most important decisions we have to make. Yet it is far too easy to put off until tomorrow what we are dreaming of today. The hectic pace of modern existence affords us an easy out; we shelve our aspirations so we can cope more effectively with the challenges of the present, ostensibly to have more time and leisure to realise our purpose in the future. Or we tell ourselves that we will chase our dreams ‘someday’ once we have accomplished other lesser goals. Probably it is our fear that keeps us from seeking fulfilment in the here and now, because we view failure as a possibility, our reasons for delaying our inevitable success seem sound and rational in the now. If we ask ourselves what we are really waiting for, however, we discover that there is no truly compelling reason why we should put off the pursuit of the dreams that sustain us.

When regarded as a question, “Why wait for someday?” drains us of our power to realise our ambitions. We are so concerned with the notion that we are somehow undeserving of happiness that we cannot see that there is much we can do in the present to begin courting it. Yet when we look decisively at our existence and state, “Why wait for someday, indeed!” we are empowered to begin changing our lives this very moment. We procrastinate for many reasons, from a perceived lack of time to a legitimate lack of self-belief, but the truth of the matter is that there is no time like the present and no time but the present. Whatever we aim to accomplish, we will achieve it more quickly and with a greater degree of efficiency when we seize the day and make the most of the resources we have at our disposal presently.

All the joy, passion, and contentment you can envision can be yours right now, rather than in some far-flung point in time. You need only remind yourself that there is nothing standing between you and fulfilment. If you decide that today is the day you will take your destiny into your hands, you will soon discover that you hold the keys of fate.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please get in touch.

When I am asked “. . and what is it you do?” I find it difficult to find a straightforward answer. Through my work I awaken people to their truth and their own potential, which they may not have realised. I am curious to find how far people can reach and attain.

Saying farewell to a home

We can often forget to say farewell to the home we are leaving behind when we move from one residence to another, as we can get so caught up in the forward thrust of where we are going. Yet saying goodbye is an important part of moving forward. It can give us a sense of completion so that we are able to fully inhabit our new space, as we have left nothing of ourselves in the old one. In this way, we honour the space that has held and nurtured us.  At the same time, we empty it of our energy so that the new residents can make the space theirs.

Take some time to be alone, plan a walk through your home that begins and ends at the front door. Prepare yourself mentally to be as present as you can during this process. Listen to your authentic inner voice. As you enter the house, you might say, “I have come to thank you for being my home and to say goodbye.” You might touch the walls with your hands as you move through the house, some people burn sage as an offering, as well as an energy cleanser. Spend some time in each room expressing your gratitude and gathering or releasing any lingering energy from the room. As you do this, you are freeing your home to embrace its new occupants. Remember to visit your outside spaces as well. Plants are especially sensitive to the energy around them and will appreciate your consideration.

Know that you have completed your final journey through your home as you make your way back to the front door, and that you have honoured it with this ritual of farewell. As you close and lock the door behind you, say one last goodbye. Now you can walk freely into your future and fully inhabit the new spaces that will keep you safe and warm.

If this has resonated with you in any way, please get in touch.
